Crystal system: Monoclinic.
Cell salt: Potassium aluminium silicate, sometimes with large amounts of sodium.
Colour: Transparent; opalescent; moon-like, silvery white light.
Energy: Magnetic.
Element: Water.
Planet/sign: Moon; Venus-Neptune/Pisces.
Uses: Due to the moving spirit-light inside the stone, moonstone is a trance-inducing gem and may be used for hypnotherapy, scrying and all manner of divinatory work.
As in earlier times, the moonstone may be used to instill tender passion in the hearts of lovers. Place moonstone in your mouth during a full moon to read what the future holds for your love relationship.
Certain moonstones can be used to mark the waxing and waning of the moon. Observe your moonstone for about a month by following the moving light within the stone. The light should appear as a small point on top of the stone during the new moon, as a round dot in the centre during the full moon and as a small point at the bottom of the stone during the last quarter moon.
Moonstone set in a silver ring should be worn on the right ring finger of a person who frequently suffers from emotional upsets during the new or full moon.
